The City of Exeter is required to comply with the Organics Recycling Law (SB 1383) which went into effect January 1, 2022. SB 1383 is a comprehensive regulatory bill that has a major impact on California cities, its residents and businesses. The State mandate is complex and requires the City to mandate food recycling services for residents and businesses, and also provide inspection, enforcement, procurement, and edible food recycling services. The bill also requires the local agency to purchase back a certain amount of the compost created from the organics collected within the agency’s boundary and offer it back at no cost to the customer. To meet the 2024 requirement, the City of Exeter has purchased 331.66 tons of compost which has been delivered to Dobson Field located on Rocky Hill Drive.
Compost is available for free on a first come first serve basis. It is self-haul so please bring your own shovels, buckets, or trailers.
