Introduction:

The City of Exeter is embarking on a groundbreaking initiative to develop its first Active Transportation Plan (ATP). Partnering with experienced transportation planning consultants, the City aims to build upon the recently completed Complete Streets with ADA Compliance and Active Transportation Safety Enhancement Plan. The ATP is crucial for accessing funding through the State of California’s Active Transportation Program, with a focus on Cycle 7 funding expected in June 2023.

 
Background:

In partnership with the Tulare County Association of Governments (TCAG), the City is dedicated to formulating a comprehensive plan tailored to address mobility challenges within its 2.46 square miles. The plan will distinctly prioritize enhancements for pedestrians, bicyclists, and non-motorized transportation. Key components encompass sidewalks, pathways, bicycle facilities, ADA-compliant Curb Cuts, and safety measures such as strategically placed lighting and crosswalks.

The plan’s emphasis extends to resolving challenging crossing points near the significant State Highway SR 65, with an ongoing collaborative effort with Caltrans to implement crucial safety improvements. Furthermore, the vision includes the establishment of connections between major parks and smaller recreational areas through a thoughtfully designed trail system. This initiative is geared towards amplifying accessibility for residents, spanning schoolchildren to individuals with disabilities.
